Dave,

I have a feeling that we'll see Microsoft extending support for their new spatial data types in a number of different areas. At least I hope so. If not, I'm game ;-)

Nate,

We are also looking at the same situation - rely heavily on ESRI and tie ourselves to a $$$ license, or just leverage it where it makes sense (analysis services etc). I'd really like to see the new Microsoft Data Services API support spatial data types - then we'd have a REST API and could round trip smoothly. If that does not come to pass, I guess we could all band together and cool a REST API for SQL 2008.

Cheers,

Dave
